Iguana Man's Home Theater/Music room System
Last Update: April 04, 2002 at 08:06:05 IP Address: 207.162.229.10
Amplifier: Pioneer Elite VSX-24TX 90watts/chnl. Some day I hope to go tubes (for music only).
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): none
Speakers: B&W DM604's (fronts), CC6 S2 (center), LM1's (bookshelves used as surrounds) and a Velodyne SPL1200 sub (fantastic sub!)
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Pioneer Elite DV-05
Turntable/Phono Stage: none
Other Source(s): none
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Stinger speaker wire (used for car installs but is heavy gauge. Monster interconnects.
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Homemade audio rack - wood -
Tweaks: none
Room Size (LxWxH): 12' x 12' x 8'
Room Comments/Treatments: I tried to make it a nice looking room in the daylight as well as functional when used for HT. The ceiling is painted flat black (no reflectivity), walls are a flat burnt-peanut-red, trim between walls and ceiling is semigloss grey. Windows have lite-tight mini blinds (color was as close to the walls as I could find) and the trim is the same semigloss grey. Carpet is grey with speckles of darker grey throughout. Room has a nice leather couch, and a small wooden table which has a spring loaded top. The top raises up and towards the couch which allows me to better simulate racing games by connecting a steering wheel to it via the many gaming consoles I own.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Stevie Ray Vaughan, Blues, Jazz, GRP lables.
System Goals/Comments: Eventually I would like to get some tube amps to drive the 604's for those music only times, or at the very least some better SS equipment.
System Strengths: Musically it's pretty good. Mids & highs are crisp, lows are solid and tight.
System Weaknesses: THE ROOM !!! 12x12x8 Front left speaker is mere inches from one corner. As good as the speakers are, I'm sure the room is hindering their performance.
Video/HT System: Integrated
TV/Projector: Sharp front projector with 250 lumens, 500 lines of resolution. Component input. 84" screen that hangs on the wall.
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: Same as above + Direct TV Sat system with 5.1 capability.
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): Same as above
Sources (DVD/VCR): VCR = JVC SVHS 4800
DVD = Pioneer DV-05
Other HT Gear: Sima Video enhancer - Allows me to "back up" DVD's to SVHS tapes. Does a damn good job of it too. Only loss is you don't get true 5.1 surround from tape.
Comments on HT System: This being my first venture into HT, I gotta say I'm very happy. Considering the size of the room and a 7' diagonal screen, the picture is pretty good. DVD's & videogames look best with SVHS tapes a close second. Direct TV is so-so. I think they pack WAY too many channels on each transponder and it hurts the overall picture (ghosting).
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: It should be obvious that I own an Iguana (Iggy). I like video games, Pittsburgh Steelers football, music, movies, downing a few beers with my buddies, and sites like this.
