Amplifier: | Electronic Tonalities Paraglows w/Vaic SL-C37 Meshplate 2A3's. Just rewired star ground to Buddha's example in latest Valve. 12awg solid core silver with berylium copper mesh shield drained to AC ground. AC ground isolated from Starred ground with yin/yang diode arrangement. Now running GE 5 star 5965's instead of stock 5965's. Much better sound! Beeswax impregnated silver in signal path at line level copper on output, using Talon 4 braid geometry. ,solid core 5/9's 12 awg ground wire combining star grounding and paralleled out of phase diodes. Filament and, propietary dualthree braid from Talon Audio. Power cord now a 4 braid version of same. Vampire OFC RCA's and Cardas copper silver plated single knob binding posts. Sound Absolutely Amazing! Have isolated all the iron and run drains to the AC ground. All mills non-inductive wirewounds for 5965's. Running 2.5K Caddock Kool Tab for 2A3 Cathode resistor. Have replaced SCR metalized poly's output coupling caps with SCR film and foil caps tied to the cathode. More Wow! Will be running cobalt EXO-36 trannies. |
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): | Sweet Whispers/w Holco resistors with Talon Audio dual three braid internconnect As soon as possible will do a DHT 26(with C4s and parafeed if possible. |
Speakers: | Talon Audio Khorus(Talonaudio.com) They just sound ubelievable although I must live with mid 90db levels. I don't think I can get this kind of musicality out of a horn.h man! Have new crossover and internal wire upgrade that improves the sound substantially! |

CD Player/DAC: | CAL CL-20 has been replaced with a Marantz DV-18, which has been noticeably modified. Phenomenal with DVD's significantly better looking and the sound is quite a bit better than the CAL as well. Keeps my wife into the system.(Movie afficianado) |
Turntable/Phono Stage: | Sold my moded Well Tempered Van Den Hul MC-One rig. The CAL kicks it's butt.(Believe it or not!) |
Other Source(s): | None |
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: | Talon audio dual 4 braid interconnects and speaker cables. Wow! |
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): | Proprietary(Talon Audio) rebuild of an APC 1250R Line Conditioner. By far the best I've had. Atlantis Lowboy(forget the name now.) TV sits on top and it matches the room and keeps everything tidy. |
Tweaks: | Townshend Seismic Sink on top of a Lovan Tri-isolator base with an Audio point 1/2" isolation cone and two RATA oak cones on top of that. Bedinin Clarifier. Russ Andrews Anti-static spray. Amps on Aircraft S-grade aluminum Fiberglass composite shelves sitting on a Travertine block on top of 2 Audio points and a DH ceramic cone. (You're right I am certifiable, but it works. Neoprene damping rings on input tubes. Proprietary power cords(Can't talk about them) and Shunmook spatializer against the walls in line with the front of the speakers.(Yes they do really work and I got em free.) Going to try the Paraglows on framed Handballs under a Golden Sound Isolation Pad. Get some cheap air isolation going. Cut down some small wood flower pots, lined with rough side of velcro look cool and work very well as 2A3 dampers. Spent $4.00 on them at local craft store. Stained them to match my amplifier bases. |
Room Size (LxWxH): | 17' x 13' x 8' |
Room Comments/Treatments: | Proper Placement of the speakers and my furniture. New high tech windows going in within two to three weeks. Will lower the outside noise level and sound less reflective than the current windows.(And they actually should improve energy/heating efficiency,Wow!) The room is now quieter with less background noise from outside. Had to reposition speakers slightly to get the ambiance right. a half inch did the trick! |
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): | Alternative Female Vocals, Baroque chaber music,Scottish and Irish Folk. Enjoy small and medium scale orchestral works, particularly 20th century english composers. The occasional soundtrack will find it's way onto my Bedini Clarifier before playback. Braveheart and Conspiricy Theory are both quite good. 96/24 Chesky's, Reference Recordings HDCD's and anything that falls in between those cracks. |
System Goals/Comments: | Want to build a C4S 26 preamp when I have the time money and circuit understanding |
System Strengths: | Harmonics, Timing, Bass, Soundstaging, Focus, Sheer Musicality. Unbelievable sense of Palpable Air. The High frequencies shred anything I have previously owned. It's like breathing the air of the recording venue it's so darn palpable. The noise floor has dropped significantly with the mods I have done to the Paraglows(Thanks Quest!) Hum is all but non-existent with just AC heating. Still gotta go D.C. as soon as I can scrape a few more buck together and find the time. It's much better with Mesh and the Holco's on the attenuators are sweeter and more open with more clarity, detail, and focus. |
System Weaknesses: | More efficiency, who care, frankly it sounds so good right now I don't care that Talon will be coming out with a 95db variation in the future. |
Video/HT System: Integrated
TV/Projector: | Maganvox 27". You would be suprised how good it looks with DVD's on a proprietary Silver Video Cable) |
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: | Run it straight through the amps. |
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): | Same as Audio. So good I could care less about Surround. (Run DVD's on Pro Logic preferably) |
Sources (DVD/VCR): | Marantz DV-18 DVD. Oh baby does it look and sound even better. Pretty good Panasonic VCR with their nifty hard heads.(No I don't remember what they call them) |
Other HT Gear: | Nope and I could care less. |
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: | My wife's home projects. Gardening, Painting, Redecorating. In return she lets me do this stuff.(It's a fair trade.) |
