Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Growing interest in Vocal music. Album/FM/Jazzadelic Rock, New Age, Small Chamber Classical, and that undieing obsession with Cool Jazz.
System Goals/Comments: To DIY as much as my skills allow me, a high resolution, little comprimise at frequency extremes music illusion machine.

Foray into tube based source/electronics has refocused interest in midband performance and vocal selections.

Each of the DIY speakers are to meet a specific design/performance goal
Main - For serious listening only, full scale and dynamics goal, while not excluding refinement on "little girl with guitar" music.

Old Main - best all around in smallest package. Results are the finest DIY creation I have ever made. One of the finest speakers I have ever heard. There are better, and I hope to be the designer.

2nd set - Vocal purity with no grain/silibance/fatigue no matter how old/bad the media

3rd set Little Whispers - No limits on detail/decay, not designed to do vocals, but crystaline, immediate, extended midrange treble for strings, cymbals, bells, hammered dolcema. Exceptional performance at extremely low volumes. Headphone time without center of skull presentation.
System Strengths: Hi-resolution playback with satisfaction of creation via DIY and keeping separate component price less than $1000 each.

Small size with large sound. No more 5 way giants taking up visual space in listening room.

Can have both involving sound and/or hi-fi sound with all the visuals (soundstage, imaging) depending on what is connected to what.

Main system performance makes music effortlessly. Results in quick transition from my "system performance" mindset to "is it time to turn off the illusion machine already".
System Weaknesses: Not yet the perfect xover. Never to be achieved of course.

In triode mode bass is slightly less tight than desired on main system.

Sub performance at rise/fall time (system Q) is comprimised to achieve in room the magic 20 hz. Far from muddy, but would like a lower Q. - As of 2/2002 this has been fixed/addressed.

Yet to cure me of "I think my next project will be...."
Video/HT System: Separate
TV/Projector: 55 inch Samsung
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: Marantz 5009
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): DIY in wall 3 way Vifa M18WO, Vifa M13, Vifa D25AG (tweeter/mid vertical, single bass next to tweeter/ mid mirrored image. Same configuration for center except tweeter below mid, Rears Vifa C13, Vifa D20
Sources (DVD/VCR): Stream and Scads blu ray
Other HT Gear: Roku
Comments on HT System: It makes my family happy, but they really could care less about all the HT/multichannel stuff. Kid knows how to play his favorite videos, wife can turn it all on an operate without feeling intimidated.
I got a chance to build 7 speaker setups.

If I could lift the TV, I would throw it out the window to get rid of the whine!
