Speaker Cables/Interconnects: | the cheapest cable that won't oxidize, and no reason to change it any time soon |

Room Comments/Treatments: | small room, horrible bass, lots of resonances |

Music Used (Genre/Selections): | I have eclectic taste and appreciate a lot, but find myself mostly buying electronica, especially trip hop and drum'n'bass. Try Massive Attack, you'll love them. |

TV/Projector: | Had a toshiba TW40H80 till it broke. Bought a 32" toshiba direct view to tide me over till I can buy a quality projector. |
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: | Dennon |
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): | rebuilt Aurasound 2-ways with 6.5" or 8" peerless csx clones with aura magnetic system, lineaum ribbon tweaters, crossover still the original geoffery dillon design. Subwoofer is a original shiva in 65L sealed alignment. All are (hopefully) soon to be replaced by a system with better dynamics and dispersion control. |
Sources (DVD/VCR): | using toshiba 3109 for DVD and HDCD decoding |
Other HT Gear: | radioshack SPL meter, if you don't have one, get one to level match. I found my ears were not good enough to resolve the last 1 or 2 decibles of level matching, but that it did make a huge difference in the imaging once it was done. |
Comments on HT System: | I wanted to build a cheap HT. Speakers were procured for $25 each. Subwoofer for $75. Dennon for a couple $100 (don't remember). Was intended to be temporary, has ended up lasting me a lot longer. The system has relatively precise sound. The monopole lineaum ribbons really are amazing at the $$ I paid, the peerless csx clone clone drivers are also very detailed. Again, for spending just a few hundred $$, I don't believe it would be possible to put together anything close to this performance. Downsides are: The lineaum tweats do not deal with high output levels or very large dynamic peaks well. My room is absolutely horrible, and needs a lot of work. A single shiva is not up to the task of providing the kind of dynamic bass I like. At the moment, integration between the speakers and the sub is not good at all. |
