tecnofossil's Quantum Flux System
Last Update: January 11, 2003 at 18:04:59 IP Address: 165.121.131.1
Amplifier: Heath W5M monoblocs... 25wattsPP. (rebuilt stock now on loan)System #2 Heath AA-111 outputs (powered as monoblocs) with custom triode inputs. System #3 Acoustat TNT-120 FET/mosfet (back-up amp and TL subwoofer amp) Toying with "Gain-Clone" (clones of that Gaincard amp) IC amplifiers. We will see how they like electrostats!
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): #1 SDS Labs SSRP preamp, currently run with 0 nfb. #2 ET Foreplay on a prettier. A remote controlled design is about to be put through trials on a experimental basis.
Speakers: InnerSound TL/ribbon prototypes, Eros hybrid electrostatic loudspeakers on loan to a friend. Restored (thanks to Decware for the parts!)Allison 1 systems, now now waiting to be placed properly in the main living room (the Eros have rather poor W.A.F. and are exiled to my listening room).
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Ancient Denon DCD acting as a "deck" now modified to use the SDS Labs tube analog stage following the D/A chips. The SDS Labs DAC is on loan.
Turntable/Phono Stage: Joe Curcio's Daniel 1 phonostage. LP system has been mothballed.
Other Source(s): Hafler FM Tuner (someday I'll add a tube output and MPX)
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: John Risch's dual teflon coax design. 13 ga teflon Litz style homebrew ala Kimber. (woofers). Chris VH's Cat-5 design still in progress. Interconnects currently are 4 conductor (2 twisted pair)shielded teflon insulated, silver plated copper interconnects (DIY) constructd via Bill Rucks TAA 1982 article called "Current thoughts on wire".
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Bell 'O angle rack
Tweaks: Everything is to some degree a "tweek" Thus the name "Quantum Flux". All ways being tweeked/changed. I am also working on a new active crossover which will replace the crossover section of Eros unit with an all tube circuit.
Room Size (LxWxH): 16 x 12 x 8.5
Room Comments/Treatments: Room is too damn small!! I got shuffled into this room after my wife's daughter moved in for a bit (far too long!) I will be changing the room for better sound by spring.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Jazz, classical, so called "classic rock", but I find as I get older I listen less and less to rock.
System Goals/Comments: Realistic, natural musical presentation! What else?
System Strengths: So, so smooth and detailed midrange and highs....best I've heard. Bass is tight and seems to blend seamlessly. Bass extension sounds like it extends to the low 20's, though my "Mitey Mike and analyzer shows the low only goes down to about 27-30hz depending on room position. I think it is the room.
System Weaknesses: Dispersion is wider than the Eros they are temporarily replacing. Ideal listening spot is a bit larger, though the best spot is still dead center. The TL/ribbon towers aren't as detailed as the Eros, (May be due to more sidewall reflections because of the wider dispersion of the ribbon/6.5" woofer)though the top end "suggests" to me that it is more extended by a small amount in the TL/ribbon.
Video/HT System: None

Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: I am a aviation electromechanical tecnician at a large aerospace service center in north central CT. While audio holds my main interest, I dabble in web design maintaining a number of manufacturing, retail and hobbiest websites. My wife and I run a wildl
