PhilP's PhilP System
Last Update: July 12, 2001 at 06:00:16 IP Address: 152.163.205.78
Amplifier: Electrocompaniet AW-180 monoblocks (180W Class A)
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Roksan L2 preamp
Speakers: Kef Reference 2 floorstanders
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Teac VRDS7 CD player
Turntable/Phono Stage: Roksan Xerxes X, Roksan Artemiz arm, Roksan Shiraz cart, Roksan Artaxerxes phono stage
Other Source(s): Denon DRM12 HX Pro tape deck
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: QED Qudos biwire speaker cables, Van Den Hul D102 MKIII interconnects
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Target TT5 rack and TT2 rack
Room Size (LxWxH): 22ft x 15ft x 10ft
Room Comments/Treatments: Large victorian style room, needs big floorstanding speakers to fill it with sound
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Classical, pop, rock
System Goals/Comments: Need a new preamp and maybe a new phono stage!
System Strengths: Monoblocks are hugely powerful. 180W into 8 ohm Class A, practically doubling into 4 ohms. The Kef speakers generate an absolutely massive soundstage using Uni-Q drivers.
System Weaknesses: Highly sensitive to cabling between preamp and monoblocks. Also, I think the phono stage could do with replacement. It's a bit too laid back when compared with the rest of the setup.
Video/HT System: None
