Other Source(s): | Carver TX-8R Tuner |
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: | Transparent Audio Wave 200 (Acoustat) Canare Star Quad w/Canare F-10 Chris VenHaus DIY Cat5 cables (sub) |
Tweaks: | Even though the sub enclosure is pretty 'dead', about 40 pounds of sand in a poplar box on top of it helps a lot! |
Room Size (LxWxH): | 12 x 15 x 8 |
Room Comments/Treatments: | Just carpet on the floor. It's a little live. |
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): | Jazz: Dave Brubeck, Weather Report, etc. |
System Goals/Comments: | It's just the way I want it! |
System Strengths: | The Acoustats image just perfectly and since they are full range (at least from about 60Hz up), there are no crossover colorations. The 12' Shiva subwoofer driver in a sealed box is very tight and pretty flat down to about 22 Hz. The system sounds very good. |
System Weaknesses: | All three speakers require a LOT of amplifier power. The Carver amps get quite hot. Also, the room really isn't large enough to properly place the speakers. |
Video/HT System: Separate
TV/Projector: | Toshiba 50' rear projection |
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: | Denon 3801 |
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): | Center: B&W 602 Front: Snell E/III Surround: B&W 601, Wharfdale dipole Sub: Infinity BU-2 |
Sources (DVD/VCR): | DVD: Denon DVD-1000 VCR: JVC SVHS |
Other HT Gear: | Samsung DSS Receiver w/Tivo |
Comments on HT System: | As with the audio system, the room is not well designed for the home theater. Given the compromises needed to integrate a home theater into a living room, it looks and sounds nice, but it's certainly not a high performance system. |
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: | Electrical engineer/simulation engineer, computers, gardening, woodworking |
