Miles O. Bainbridge's Main system System
Last Update: August 28, 2001 at 22:19:17 IP Address: 64.123.57.159
Amplifier: Advent Model 300 (10 WPC)
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): None (integrated)
Speakers: B&W DM-302 (91 dB sensitivity, frequency range 59 Hz - 22 kHz on 26" stands)
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Rotel RCD-950 as transport feeding Meridian 563 DAC, XLO Signiture 4.1 digital cable.
Turntable/Phono Stage: BIC 981 heavily modified with Grado ZF3E+ cartridge.
Other Source(s): Pioneer casette deck.
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Kimber 8TC speaker cable and Straight Wire interconnects.
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Adcom ACE-515 power conditioner. Also, Grado SR-60 headphones with upgraded earpads.
Tweaks: Removed all automatic features from turntable (reduced mechanical impedance on tonearm), re-assembled bearing/washer/elastomer assembly (improved speed stability), removed power switch linkage, tweaked electronic speed control unit. New rectifiers in Advent amp.
Room Size (LxWxH): 17 x 11.5 x 9
Room Comments/Treatments: Speakers set up according to instructions for Audio Physic Virgo (along the long wall).
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Jazz, Andean, Nuevo Cancion, Classical, Musicals, Funk, Blues, Soul...
System Goals/Comments: Better turntable and tonearm, more neutral amp, more dynamic and transparent speakers.
System Strengths: Awesome three-dimensional soundstage with pinpoint imaging, fairly neutral tonal balance (especially with previous amps which have gone to the graveyard), very engaging, and more than enough power to fill the whole apartment with music.
System Weaknesses: With the current amp, the upper mids and treble are a bit crisp. Analogue sounds better than digital by far. The tuner drifts. The amp is a little more noisy than I would like.
Video/HT System: None
TV/Projector: None.
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: None.
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): None.
Sources (DVD/VCR): Computer plays DVD's. JVC HR-VP58U VCR with quasi-S-VHS playback.
Other HT Gear: None
Comments on HT System: I'm really not an HT guy
