Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): | Sanus 5 shelf rack filled with 60# steel shot and 50# Italian marble slab under Rega Planar 25 |
Tweaks: | Preamp inverted phase right channel output utilized (corrected at speaker connections), Fried subwoofers and Sanus equipment rack are spike mounted to tile/concrete floor, regularly CAIG cleaned contacts (power and interconnect), hospital grade AC duplex, AC lines segregated from interconnects, NBT expanding bananas; all pretty conventional stuff |

Room Comments/Treatments: | Sonex junior panels covering wall behind speakers, speakers are 2.0' into 2350 cu. ft. room; heavily padded wall-to-wall carpet, filled bookcases, and substantial upholstered furniture create medium liveness and reduce direct reflections without additional room treatments |
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): | 70s-90s AOR and album Rock, 50s-60s instrumental Jazz (Bop, Cool, Hard Bop, some Fusion), small and large ensemble instrumental Classical (baroque through early 20th Century) - I am not voluntarily in vinyl; vinyl is a now inseparable part of my musical history. |
System Goals/Comments: | Realism and Clarity; 35 years worth of effort to get a system that sounds good with all program material, satisfy my DIY needs with modifications, repairs, and tweaks. The ability to get through a month's high fidelity magazines without exercising a credit card. |
System Strengths: | Present system recently caused my wife to accuse me of having bought all new recordings - if she noticed all of the additional clarity, life, and emotionally involving nature of recent tweaks and mods, then anybody will. A system I can pretty much forget about and enjoy the music. |
System Weaknesses: | NUT BEHIND THE WHEEL; I still am learning things and don't always know what I am hearing. Technology also keeps improving (not just marketing). Some modern equipment sounds better and tighter. Compromises with cost have provided good bang-for-the-buck, but not technological ultimate. I do not believe that any improvement in sound is worth whatever the seller is bold enough to ask. A listening room twice as big (with twice as high a ceiling) would always help, but this is the best I have ever enjoyed. |
Video/HT System: Separate
TV/Projector: | 35' Mitsubishi |
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): | Monitor incorporates sub, left and right small Boston Acoustic 2-ways |
Sources (DVD/VCR): | Sony DVD, Mitsubishi VCR (HIFI and VHS-S) |
Comments on HT System: | I am not a home theater kind of guy. I am a two-channel stereo kind of guy. The video system allows for enjoying cable or a movie, but is not the center of any universe. |
