Amplifier: | Quad 303 |
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): | Quad 33 |
Speakers: | Technics SB20 miniatures (approx 20 years old) |
Sources: | |
CD Player/DAC: | Marantz CD42 |
Other Source(s): | Technics AM/FM analog receiver; Aiwa ADF260 tape deck |
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: | Speaker: white twin-core stuff that was in the toolbox, thin enough and long enough. I/C: VD Hul 102 from CD. CT125-based from pre to power amp. Giveaways for the rest. |
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): | Lash-up chipboard stand/unit in a fetching shade of apricot white, handpainted. Speakers on tiny chipboard shelves high up in corners. |
Tweaks: | I'm toying with the idea of screwing castors onto the bottom of the rack so I can move it more easily. |
Room Size (LxWxH): | 5m x 5m x 2m |
Room Comments/Treatments: | Fully glassed two walls, with patio type sliding action. Roof clear polycarb in IBR pattern with UV protection; retractible canvas awning. Does nothing for the sound, but great to laze in on winter afternoons. |
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): | 567 Cape Talk radio mostly, though I also use it for playing through the collection of cassette tapes to keep them healthy. CDs for background noise. |
System Goals/Comments: | She shall have music wherever she goes. |
System Strengths: | Unobtrusive. Cheap. Sounds good for what it is. |
System Weaknesses: | She shall have music wherever she goes, but prefers not to have the speakers at seat level where they'd really sing. |
Video/HT System: None | |
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: | Writer: Associate Editor, CAR, Cape Town, South Africa. Guitarist (classically schooled, now playing mainly jazz, latin, acoustic styles). Competitive cyclist. Dabble in DIY electronics. |
