Last Update: April 16, 2006 at 17:11:09 IP Address: 70.226.183.86
Amplifier: Audison 200W 4 channel (mids and tweets), Soundstream Class A 5.0 (500W mono to 2ohm load) and an Audison 200W for woofers. Audio Control EQL equalizer and 4XS 4-way crossover.
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Alps 10K stereo pot, $40 from The Parts Connection.
Speakers: Dynaudio MD100 tweeters, MD140 dome midrange and MW 160 (7'' woofer) in doors. 10' Eclipse dual voice coil sub in trunk firing through ski access in middle of rear seat back.
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Sony ES 10 Disc changer controlled by joystick on steering wheel. Toslink output to a Wireworld glass toslink cable to 8 Theta TLCs. Illuminati 'Ohm Aha' 75 ohm cable hard wired bewteen TLCs and Monarchy DIP MKII. DH Labs D-110 AES/EBU cable from DIP to Assemblage UJB-1 and then to a Theta Pro Basic IIIA DAC. The Theta DAC, DIP and UJB-1are 110V powered by Radio Shack 140W inverter. DIP was required to convert to AES/EBU format. This was necessary because Theta DAC mounted in trunk defaults to AES/EBU when first powered up. Output of DAC goes to EQL which amplifies it to send up to Alps 'black beauty' pot mounted under the dash. Output of pot feeds into the 4XS 4-way crossover.
Turntable/Phono Stage: NA
Other Source(s): Stock AM/FM CD player still works through original speakers mounted in rear deck.
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Marigo Audio Reference 9.2B and Nordost Baldur interconnects from DAC to equalizer. Streetwires ZN5.0 from EQL to pot and into 4XS crossover. 4 pairs of Cardas Neutral Reference from 4-way xover to amps. Kimber 4TC to mids and tweets. Kimber 8PR to mid woofers and Streetwires 4 gauge to subwoofwer. Shunyata Sidewinder Gold and Nordost Shiva.
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): NA
Tweaks: Installation took over two months to complete with an additonal 6.5 years of tweaking/upgrading. System was removed from another car, but required alot of adjustments before it sounded spectacular. Amp gains, active crossover and 11-band equalizer required many hours of listening and optimization.
Room Size (LxWxH): NA x NA x NA
Room Comments/Treatments: Deflex damping pads mounted in door behind woofer. Cascade damping material added extensively to doors.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Neil Young, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, YES. ELP, Cranberries.
System Goals/Comments: Main goal is to recreate a 3 dimensional soundstage in the car. Vocals are clear and directly below the rear view mirror.
