joelll's Livingroom System
Last Update: March 01, 2005 at 10:40:33 IP Address: 204.130.104.10
Amplifier: Harman Kardon 590i (45wpc)
- or if I capriciously swap receivers --
Sansui Model Eight (60wpc)
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): None.
Speakers: Polk Monitor 12 (Speaker A)
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Marantz CC-65se 5-disc carousel
Turntable/Phono Stage: Technics SL-D35 (direct drive fully automatic), with original Audio Technica p-mount cartridge, elliptical stylus
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: generic 12-gauge wire
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Metro shelving rack. Receiver gets its own shelf, and the turntable is on top of the CD player, which is on top of an old non-working Macintosh II computer.
Tweaks: 'Cunningham Farms' (now out of business) milk crate speaker stands for the Monitor 12s. Heavyweight plastic, with the metal band around the open end that enhances rigidity.
Room Size (LxWxH): 14 x 12 x 8
Room Comments/Treatments: Rug on the floor, two sofas, one big soft armchair.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Rock, ska, blues, folk.
System Goals/Comments: A good rock-solid livingroom system. The Polk Monitor 12s and the EPI 105s make for some interesting a/b comparisons.
System Strengths: Excellent cheap vintage stereo. Total system cost (without the home theater below): $700 (mostly for the CD changer and speakers)
System Weaknesses: More volume available than my downstairs neighbors or landlords will tolerate.
Video/HT System: Separate
TV/Projector: Sony 32' trinitron
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: Sony GA7ES
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): EPI 120c (main L+R)
Polk CS400 (center) (good match for the EPI tweeters)
EPI A70 (surround L&R)
Sources (DVD/VCR): Sony DVP-S7000
Comments on HT System: This system is actually located in my dining room, but I didn't want to make a whole separate entry for it. My philosophy on HT was to create something inexpensive yet likeable, because I listen to much more music than I watch movies or tv. to The Sony receiver is lousy, but free to me on loan. This system is planned to be upgraded over time.
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Technical theater, motorcycling, obsolete computing, cryptography.
