Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Rock
System Goals/Comments: The Klipsch Chorus II speakers possess a certain dynamic quality that makes them well suited to creating the sound and dimensionality typically reserved for a live performance. This is NOT your typical audiophile sound, with emphasis on tightly controlled bass and sizzling cymbals. Instead, the system reproduces music the way I enjoy it listening to it - live.
System Strengths: The punchy sound of the Klipsch Chorus II's, combined with the tube-like nature of the Carver Lightstar, provides for a very open sound stage which does an excellent job of emulating the sound and dynamics typically associated with a live performance.
System Weaknesses: The CD player dates back to 1984 and is woefully outdated. I'll ultimately upgrade to a SACD or DVD Audio Player for mutichannel music reproduction.
Video/HT System: Integrated
TV/Projector: Sony 27" (major upgrade required - HDTV on the shopping list)
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: 2 Carver TFM-35x amps (250 wpc) for center and surround channels; Stereophile Guide to Home Theater, Fall 1996, Class C.
Parasound P/SP-1500 pre/pro
Parasound P/DD-1500 Dolby Digital decoder
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): Center: Klipsch Academy
Surrounds: Klipsch RS-7
Rear Ctr: Klipsch Academy (in storage)
Subwoofer: M&K MX-100
Sources (DVD/VCR): DVD: Sony DVP-S7000
VCR: Sony S-770
Comments on HT System: The combination provides for a very dynamic home theater experience. The Carver 35x's have a very laid back and effortless quality that match the Klipsch center and surrounds very well, which in turn smoothly integrate with the mains. The sound is big, even if the picture is small!
