Ed R's Nothin' fancy or esoteric lounge listening System
Last Update: April 19, 2002 at 07:14:27 IP Address:
Amplifier: Naim NAP90
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Naim NAC92
Speakers: Acoustic Energy AE109
CD Player/DAC: Linn Mimik II
Turntable/Phono Stage: Roksan Xerxes c/w XPS3.5 power supply. O/L250 fully modded & Clearaudio Aurum Beta S
Other Source(s): Denon cassette deck. Sony MD recorder.
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: QED Qudos Silver speaker cables (single wire) Chord Cobra between CD & amp.
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Kemp Electronics mains filter. Stands Unique rack.
Room Size (LxWxH): 20 ft x 11 ft x 8 ft
Room Comments/Treatments: Wood pannelling on top of concrete floor results in a fairly "live" sound. Speakers are too close to the back wall for optimum performance but I have tried to tame the extended bass with thick drapes to break up reflections.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Aphex Twin to Zappa, taking in the Byrds, the Fall, Genesis, Mercury Rev, Orbital, Pavement and Yes in between. Jazz and classical in small doses!
System Goals/Comments: To have a balance between musical detail and "presence" of music. To feel that the performance is right in front of you and that the system is not adding or subtracting anything of its own.
System Strengths: Detail and staging are good (maybe not perfect). A "musical" system.
System Weaknesses: I know there are improvements to be made primarily in amp and speakers. Don't know where to start though.
Video/HT System: None
TV/Projector: Nothing to get excited over.
