MichaelL's Downstairs (actually it is upstairs in bedroom) System
IP Address: 63.231.75.149 Last Update: April 21, 2008 at 07:38:18
Amplifier: Chassis on up rebuilt Dynaco Stereo 70. Only
chassis and output transformers stayed the same. New transformer, Ned Carlson's input board with upgraded caps, SDS power supply, etc.
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): DIY. Linestage is basic grounded cathode with 12AX7A pair and unbypassed Jensen caps. Power supply is highly regulated, with transformer and filters in separate housing, but regulation and additional filters close to linestage. Power supply modules from Welborne Labs -- they are designed by Alan Kimmel.
Speakers: DIY two-way with the new PL Vifa midrange and tweeters designed by Vifa. Crossover done on LEAP with Madisound and extravagant caps from Welborne Labs.

Room Comments/Treatments: Odd shaped room with angled ceiling and lots od damping. Very good for audio.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Chamber music, Classical, Ethnic, Jazz, Topical
System Goals/Comments: I still like the "absolute sound" standard. Judge a system by how it reproduces unamplified music, especially voice and violin.
System Strengths: Accurate midrange and treble. Bass very tight for tubes. Excellent imaging and soundstage depth.
System Weaknesses: Has coloration of Jensen Paper in Oil caps,
tubes and speakers -- but they are my colors!
Video/HT System: None
