vikeboy's Almost Certainly Unique System
Last Update: February 20, 2004 at 14:13:34 IP Address: 68.82.196.102
Amplifier: Dynaco ST-70 Tube Amp (1962 vintage) with Curcio Cap Board and Curcio Upgrade Driver Board. Original "Dynaco by Mullard" EL34 power tubes. How much longer will they last? I don't know, but I will cry when they go.
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Antique Sound Labs Passive TI
Speakers: Meadowlark Kestrel Hot Rods
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Musical Fidelity A3 CD. Mmmmm...gold.
Turntable/Phono Stage: Sony PS-LX55 Linear Tracking with Audio Technica 'God Only Knows' Model P-Mount Cartridge.
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Sound King 12 Gauge OFC Speaker Cables.

Various Monster Interconnects. Working on some home-brew 30 gauge magnet wire interconnects...what a bitch to solder.

Tweaks: I cut my speaker wire 1 foot shorter on the negative leads. I find this creates a big semi-loop on the positive lead, which adds depth to the soundstage, sticking out the back like that and all. Perhaps the sound waves from the drivers are exciting photons from the overhead lighting, which are interracting with the electrons in the looped lead at the quantum level. Perhaps not.
Room Size (LxWxH): 18' x 12' x 8'
Room Comments/Treatments: Sonex knock-off panels on the side walls at the first and second early reflection points.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Prog Rock... Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree currently in heavy rotation.
System Goals/Comments: To make the music sound like music, and wrangle an invite to listen with Harry. Or fish with Artie. Yeah that would actually be better I think, although I didn't get the final issue of Listener. I'm still pissed about that.
System Strengths: Love the EL34 PP tube sound. Also, the autoformer-based ASL 'preamp' seems to let the music through unscathed, which is nice.
System Weaknesses: The Kestrels don't go far into the lowest octave.
Video/HT System: Integrated
TV/Projector: Panny PT53WX42 RPTV
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: Kenwood VR-209 AV Receiver
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): Paradigm Reference LCR (center), Cambridge Soundworks Surrounds, Velodyne HGS-10 Bazillion Watt Servo Controlled Subwoofer.
Sources (DVD/VCR): Toshiba SD-2108 DVD, Panny RP62 DVD, RCA unknown model DSS
Other HT Gear: My he'met and my shouldermapads
Comments on HT System: It knocks
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: High Power Rocketry
