Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: | I just use the largest gauge oxygen free speaker wire that works with my amp. I do not really screw around with boutique speaker cable or interconnects, but I don't buy the cheap radio shack interconnects, either |
Room Size (LxWxH): | 30 x 20 x |
Room Comments/Treatments: | I just moved into a new home and I have the whole basement for my listening room. This is a much larger space than I had before. Now that I have so much space, I will be looking into room treatments for sure. |
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): | Jazz/Exotica: Horace Silver, Clifford Brown, Esquivel, Prez Prado, George Shearing 78s: Bob Wills, Fats Waller, Milton Brown, Luis Armstrong, Dock Boggs, Charlie Poole Country: Merle Haggard, George Jones, Kitty Wells, Conway Twitty, Jerry Lee Lewis Rock: Stones, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Buddy Holly R&B: Elmore James, Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles |
System Goals/Comments: | I want my system to be basically a time capsule of the best system you could've assembled in 1965. I am satisfied with the Mc-75/KLH Nine amp/speaker combo, though I might get two more MC-75s so I have one amp per speaker. My preamp is the only non-vintage component of my system, even though I built it myself. Eventually, I will buy a vintage preamp such as a C-20, Citation 1, or a Marantz 7. I'm also shooting for a Thorens TD124 turntable. If I get filthy rich, Ill get a Marantz 10b tuner. |
System Strengths: | It sounds pretty damn good for being so old. |
System Weaknesses: | The Dual turntable AND Advent speakers are serviceable but they are really not up to the class of the Mcintosh amps. Once I bought the MC-75s, I became compelled to upgrade everything else. The Van Alstine T5 has a killer phono section but the linestage is underwhelming, also it is not very featureful at all. |
