Last Update: June 09, 2006 at 11:57:16 IP Address: 12.169.0.74
Amplifier: Crimson 620 stereo power amp
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Crimson 610 stereo preamp
Speakers: DNM Rewired Rega EL8 until I can find Rehdeko Loudspeakers for sale.
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: No More cd player: iPod with Naim power supply and DNM wire, Apple Mac Mini.
Turntable/Phono Stage: Planning on either the Rega P5 or Funk Turntable with Reson cartridge
Other Source(s): Still looking for a good used Naim Nat 1 or 2.
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: All DNM wire
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Hospital grade power outlets, nothing else.
Tweaks: None. Just Ikea Lack tables.
Room Size (LxWxH): 20 x 15 x 9
Room Comments/Treatments: furniture and a piano
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Jazz records: Bill Evans Trio, Dave B., Miles, Stan Getz, Mingus, Chet Baker. A lot of pop and alternative music. A lot of classical stored on hard disc.
System Goals/Comments: mood changing and learning about music. Not to resort to watching television.
System Strengths: not very "hifi" or pretty. Surprising resolution with little digital source as long as it is encoded with Apple Lossless. I don't miss the naim cd player at all. Analogue is even better. My whole family can play music with the computer! No one touches discs, and I am the only one who bothers with analogue.
System Weaknesses: Doesn't play loudly, which is not really a bothersome thing. No remote. No exaggerated bass. Those are all modern things that adolescents want in a stereo system, or else it is not as valuable. I see these weaknesses as strengths, and find the absence of these items as a plus since the items absent are most of the time distractions and annoyances.
Video/HT System: Separate
TV/Projector: apple computer with os tiger and a 20" tube television with bad color
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: none
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): headphones
Sources (DVD/VCR): pioneer dvd, mac mini
Other HT Gear: none
Comments on HT System: we watch movies on them
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: hiking, three children (all boys, ages 3 and 3 month old twins), playing music, biking, travel - I am a psychotherapist.
