Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Jazz; 17th, 18th & 19th century Classical; Classic Rock; Bluegrass & Folk; World music (especially South America and Carribean); selected modern Country. Especially like small ensembles in all genres & female vocals in jazz, pop & country.
System Goals/Comments: Neutral equipment that gets out of the way of the music.
System Strengths: The amp/speaker combo is fabulous. The Avanti's are super detailed and fast, but can be too lean or dry sounding. The Berning is just as fast, but with the switchable feedback I can soften the sound just right, and get a beautiful organic sound that draws you into the music. The NOS tubes, both cryo and non-cryo, lowered the noise floor and added huge amounts of detail and depth to the presentation. The analogue side of this system is really really good. The recently addded passive volume control adds some ice richness but is otherwise neutral and gives me remote volume control, which is nice. The room has good acoustics, and the bass is clear and musical down to the limit of the speakers. The tx103 step up + Hagerman Trumpet combo is quiet, fast, neutral, and detailed. 45's on this system are unbelievable. CDP was improved immensely with the balanced power unit. Highly recommended for digital.
System Weaknesses: Very few. Need a subwoofer to get to 20hz, but that doesn't bother me. CDP is good bang for the buck, but certainly not state of the art. Thinking about SACD at some point, but still lots of vinyl to buy.
Video/HT System: None
