Amplifier: Headsave Ultra (Meta42) headphone amp - AD8620 op-amp, audiophile-grade components.
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Technics SU-C01 (retail $325 ca. 1979) with MM/MC capabilities & subsonic/high filters. A nice range of options, and well rated in High Fidelity magazine back in mid '79 -- refuses to overload.
Speakers: None! Headphone listening only (Sennheiser HD-580, HD-600, Stax SR-34 electrets).
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 PCI Sound Card
Turntable/Phono Stage: Stock-ish Thorens TD-160 MkI with TP-16 tonearm, phono stage in preamp used. Audio-Technica AT440ML cartridge -- an arm/cart mismatch, but oh how good it sounds.
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: RS Gold Series, Outlaw PCA
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): NiMH battery power -- homemade battery packs
Tweaks: The TD-160 IC's were shortened & new RCA plugs attached, suspension tuned, platter bearing oiled, TT rebelted.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Moog & other analog synthesizers, 70's album rock, 80's euro-dance, many others. Like many people I go through musical "phases," and if it exists I've probably been "into" it at one time or another. I seem to have outgrown most of the louder & angrier stuff, however.
System Goals/Comments: No particular goals, it just keeps evolving slowly. Very little money spent for quite a nice sound.
System Strengths: "Decent" turntable & cartridge, variety of different components. Flexibility - I can listen through the amp or through my PC, record to digital or CD-R through my PC. Great musicality with very little money invested.
System Weaknesses: Nothing new & expensive (not sure if this is a weakness). The Thorens TP-16 tonearm is not much of a plus.
Video/HT System: Separate
TV/Projector: Zenith 25" (a couple years old)
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: Surround? We don't need no steenkin' surround...
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): TV speakers used along with inexpensive 'booster' 2.1 speakers from hifi.com.
Sources (DVD/VCR): Toshiba SD-2109 (ancient but very good DVD player, lacks more recent features), Sharp VC-H800 VCR
Comments on HT System: OK for general TV & movie watching (which I do very little of)... certainly could be much better. DVD viewing on PC is available too (I've got a nice high-end monitor).

Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Internet, computer programming, vinyl to digital transfer... living a simple but fulfilling life. The key seems to be to want what you have, rather than what you don't.
