HKL's Evolving Two Channel System
Last Update: July 16, 2004 at 13:41:07 IP Address: 192.193.221.149
Amplifier: DIY #10 interstage coupled #50 single-ended with all Electra-Print transformers. Still tweaking with operating point and else.
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Conrad-Johnson Premier Two with factory installed power supply 'upgrade'. Stock tube set, all GE and Philips.
Speakers: Triangle Zephyr XS, 4-ohm, 91dB efficiency.
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Cheapo Toshiba DVD player, sort of interim for future upgrade.
Turntable/Phono Stage: Only when my living space and WAF allow.
Other Source(s): Pioneer F-90 Digital Synthesizer Tuner

Cable TV and Panasonic VCR.

Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Quad braid solid core silver loudspeaker cable for higher frequency and twisted copper for lower.

Solid core silver DIY interconnects with quad braid configuration.

Tweaks: For the moment, experimentation with loudspeaker placement.
Room Size (LxWxH): 11 ft. x 18 ft. x 8.5 ft.
Room Comments/Treatments: Living area in a highrise apartment unit with loudspeakers placed along the long wall. Not exactly the ideal listening room by dimension and other sonic constraints. Large size marble coffee table between loudspeakers and listening position. Room could be too live with sheet rock wall, minimal sound dampening materials, and paquet floor.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Mostly classical with a small, eclectic collection of jazz, light rock, and Chinese music.
System Goals/Comments: Accuracy, transparency, and convincingly being there.

Why go multi-channel so long as we only have two ears. B^)

System Strengths: Does what it can within the resource/environment constraints. Very musical.

The others? You don't really want to read all of them.

System Weaknesses: Fair to say, sufficient room for improvement, particularly with large scale orchestral works.

The others? I don't rather talk about them.

Video/HT System: Integrated
TV/Projector: Toshiba 30-inch HDTV-ready monitor.
Sources (DVD/VCR): Cheapo Toshiba DVD player yet with lots of bells and whistles, e.g., 24-bit/192kHz, HDCD, digital audio out, etc.

Panasonic VCR with nothing to brag about.

Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Too many to list here.
