Last Update: November 24, 2003 at 08:42:14 IP Address: 218.102.23.28
Amplifier: DIY WE300B SETA, 12V DC battery power supply, 6N7 input, WE275 driver
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): None
Speakers: B&W Matrix 801 Series 3
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Toshiba SD-9000 DVD player (I don't listen to much CDs anymore)
Turntable/Phono Stage: Michell GyroSE w/ QC power supply. SME V tonearm w/Benz M0.9 cartridge to DIY tube phonostage (12V DC battery supply) set to 47KOhm + Rega RB600 w/Shure Mx97 to Lehman Black Cube.
Other Source(s): None
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: SME V --> Silver Audio Breeze --> tube phonostage --> Kimber KS-1020 --> amp --> Kimber KS-3033 + Monocle-X bi-wire

RB600 (modified with Ortofon 6N silver internal wiring) --> VdH D-501 Hybrid --> Black Cube --> Kimber Hero --> amp.

Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Power cables:

Harmonic Tech Magic (no longer in use)

Siltech SPO18 (DVD player)

Harmonic Tech ProAC 11 (DIY tube phono and Lehman Black Cube)

Tweaks: Shunmook Mpingo discs on various AC plugs and fuse box.
Room Size (LxWxH): 12' x 19' x 8'
Room Comments/Treatments: RPG ProFoam on the front walls behind speakers.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Jazz, Classical, POP, soft rock, Chinese Opera....
System Goals/Comments: As long as the music sound like music I am happy!
System Strengths: Resolution, body, hi/low extension (the tube phonostage is at least 1 full octave lower than the Black Cube), dynamics and complete lack of harshness. Vocal is particularly well rendered, with good recordings you can easily "see" how the artists sing and how well (or bad for that matter!) they are breathing.
System Weaknesses: 2A3 SETA is definitely under-powered for orchestra pieces (as compared to my previous DIY 300B push-pull which can easily handle pieces like the "Pictures at the Exhibition") and the positioning of the speakers may not render the best depth possible from the equipment.
Video/HT System: Integrated
TV/Projector: JVC 16x9 TV
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: Nakamichi AV-10 receiver
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): Center: B&W HTM

Surround: B&W Matrix 804

No subwoofer (the 2 12" woofers of the Matrix 801 is already more than sufficient although they are not as fast as some good active subs)

Sources (DVD/VCR): Toshiba SD-9000
Other HT Gear: None
Comments on HT System: Exciting, extremely good surround effects despite the system being 5.0 only. In Harry Porter there's a scene where owls fly in from all directions delivering a letter to Harry and the definition is so good you can literally count and see exactly the directional cues of each owl without looking at the screen. And in Jurrasic Park 3 where the T-Rex fights with the other dino, the thumping and the cracking of the T-Rex's neck bone is VERY un-nerving.
