Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): | Jazz/Funk/Soul/Disco classics Lots of old school and contemporary hip-hop |
System Goals/Comments: | This is a practice system for a learning bedroom DJ. It is also used for a hi-fi setup and home studio. Eventually it will be made modular for installation in a van for a Mobile DJ/Sound System setup. |
System Strengths: | 60W of total tube power split three ways - two full band channels and one sub-bass fed to amps by crossover unit. Over 110dB peak @ 1khz measured on an SPL meter. This system gets the most out of dance music with heavy bass, clean mids and crisp highs - used SPL meter to tweak response curve flat @ 90dB using test tones and EQ unit. Never fails to impress my stereo-in-a-box friends. |
System Weaknesses: | Probably not officially hi-fidelity because of Shure DJ-style cartridge, solid-state preamp/mixer, cheaper push-pull style tube amps - this is for listening to James Brown, not Fleetwood Mac. |
Video/HT System: Integrated
TV/Projector: | Hitachi 32" TV |
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: | 30WPC internal amp w/line out and speaker posts (occassionally used as backup). |
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): | Patched to audio setup through Vestax mixer |
Sources (DVD/VCR): | Antenna (RF), Stereo VHS VCR (RCA Composite), Canon ZR-20 DV camera (S-Video LCr) |
Comments on HT System: | Largely for casual viewing, occasionally used as monitor for video editing using Final Cut Pro on iMac. Canon ZR-20 used to convert Firewire DV to S-Video. |
