IP Address: 47.150.224.49 Last Update: August 22, 2017 at 11:11:32
Amplifier: Adcom GFA5500.
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): For analog sources: Threshold Forte Model 2.
For digital sources and HT: Lexicon MC-12.
Speakers: Thiel CS3- active electronic bass equalizer not used.
Focal "Cobalt" subwoofer with the 13-inch "W" cone- a very musical unit.
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Sony UHP-H1 Universal Disc Player- beautiful sound from Redbook CD's.
Turntable/Phono Stage: #1= Sony PS-X50 + Dynavector XX-1 + Luxman SUT- a fortuitous combination.
#2= Sony PS-X55 + Pickering XUV-4500-Q.
Other Source(s): Yamaha T1 FM tuner.
Dedicated music PC Dell Optiplex 960 SFF w/Windows 7 playing WMA Lossless digital files via Outboard CM 6631 USB DDC
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Interconnects mostly DIY with Mogami Neglex & Canare F10's. Lifatec glass fiber optical cables sound lovely but that's a result of the components, their age and some kind of synergy.
Speaker cable Kimber 8TC.
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Teac C-3RX Cassette Deck; superb Luxman D-408 LaserDisc player; Sony SLV-676UC VHS.
Schiit headphone amp and basic Sennheiser 650's,
Some sort of big Monster Power HT AC conditioner runs everything- I got it for free and it sounds OK
Tweaks: Putting my money into records and going to see live music.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Fusion jazz, jazz, rock, classical, organ.
System Goals/Comments: Goal: 1) Bass as good as my string bass playing in this same room.
2) Digital file playback sweet and warm, toe-tapping good. Currently it sounds to my fuzzy ears extremely close to the same recording via CD. This is "good enough" performance for my systems overall ability to resolve but I think future improvement is possible.
System Strengths: The Thiels were voiced in the Golden Age of Vinyl and sound real nice. Having listened to them for 35 years now, it seems a significant upgrade would cost thousands and I have no craving to change.
More and more digital material playing these days and my LP collection is thinned out to around 2500 and going down!
System Weaknesses: My Lexicon has 27 cables of various sorts sticking out of the back- its becoming a bit of a nightmare but it's pretty robust.
Video/HT System: Integrated
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: Lexicon MC-12- see comments.
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): Tried many different centers. None proved worthwhile- 2.1 is the only path.
Comments on HT System: The Lexicon MC-12 can play music pretty nicely if set for "2-channel." Although I dread A/D and D/A conversions, its a necessary evil to derive the crossover and as long as these conversions happen on the same circuit-board it feels pretty transparent.
