serus's The most coherent system on Earth! System
Last Update: February 08, 2005 at 17:07:30 IP Address: 66.81.127.45
Amplifier: Prototype solid-state push-pull amp, based on my previous single-ended amp - "as simple as it needs to be but no simpler!"
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): DIY tube built into a PAS-3 case. Low-feedback GB-5814A (best 12AU7 sub!) line-stage and zero-feedback MM 6027A phono stage.
Speakers: Modified (re-wired, re-capped) Infinity Monitor-II: bass down to 22 Hz with refined highs from the Walsh tweeter.
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Revox B-225: massive transport, parallel DAC, low jitter, sweet and neutral.

Sony CDP-111: very close to the B-225 with the convenience of a real remote control!

Turntable/Phono Stage: Oracle Delphi, Fidelity Research FR64fx, ADC XLM-II, collecting dust because it doesn't have an auto-lift and life is just too short to deal with such esoteric concepts...

Sugden BD-2 with ADC XLM-II improved - rythm and music on a budget - sweet!

Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: DIY braided CAT-5 speaker cables and Oritek Audio X-2 prototype interconnects - the best I've heard (my own company...)
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Amp and preamp use shielded power cords and EMI filters.
Room Size (LxWxH): 20 x 15 x 8
Room Comments/Treatments: Rugs, couch and a large fabric decor on the side wall.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Classical, Jazz, classic Rock.
System Goals/Comments: Coherent and natural sound.

The real goal is to sound not like a system!

System Strengths: It does not sound like a system...

Very 'fast', detailed, resolving - and musical!

System Weaknesses: Amps are not brutal, but sufficient for my tastes and room size.

Vintage equipment also has its drawbacks... The CD players are first generation single-beam, and there are (very few) CDs that one or both cannot handle.

Video/HT System: None
TV/Projector: 51' rear projection Mitsubishi - very basic!

Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Ham radio (how predictable...)
