Eric Nelson's Great Room System
Last Update: May 07, 2003 at 10:47:28 IP Address: 47.234.0.52
Amplifier: Bryston 4B
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Home built, push-pull 6SN7,
transformer input and output
Speakers: Martin-Logan Quest Z,
Bag End Infrasub
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: CEC 3100
Turntable/Phono Stage: MMF-2.1, parasound PPH-100
Other Source(s): computer based radio
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Kimber/no-name
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Lovan
Tweaks: The MMF-2.1 and the Bag End to not mix
well. The turntable produces tons of
rumble, which causes the sub to turn off.
modified the phono stage to kill the bass.
Room Size (LxWxH): 50 x 35 x 20
Room Comments/Treatments: None
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Stuff I hate - teen music for
my daughters and Country music for
my wife.
System Goals/Comments: Reasonable sound. The best sound so far
in this room is a $100 pair of Pioneer
speakers my wife bought at circuit city.
The Martin Logans at least sound better
than the KEF 107s did in this room.

The room kills good sound from the
stereo, but the Piano sounds great there.

System Strengths: it is OK
System Weaknesses: These speakers sound a whole lot better
in a smaller room. Also there is a huge
fireplace in between the speakers which
makes things sound pretty bad unless you have very wide dispersion speakers.

I think that the JM Lab Utopias might sound
nice in this room.

Video/HT System: None
