Last Update: September 25, 2004 at 06:58:39 IP Address: 69.138.69.223
Amplifier: B&K Reference 4420 (225 wpc @ 8 ohms) driving main speakers
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Hopefully, a Foreplay, but this depends on my ability to build.
Speakers: Magnepan MG2.5R with a variation on GL stands.
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Cheap Sony 5-disc changer for everyday listening. Toshiba 3950 for more serious listening. Don't scoff! It works well with the 2.5Rs.
Turntable/Phono Stage: Someday.
Other Source(s): The DVD player makes a better source than the changer.
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Speaker cables: Alphacore Goertz MI-3

Interconnects: Goertz Tourmaline

Interconnects: Monstercable

Room Size (LxWxH): 11 x 14 x 8
Room Comments/Treatments: crumpled paper and flannel sheets on wall behind speakers to diffuse the backwave. Ugly as hell, but helps.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Folk, Independent Rock, Jazz, Classical, Electronic, Trip Hop
System Goals/Comments: Goal is to be listenable for multiple genres of music, but primarily to reproduce music with a realistic/live feel. also must double as HT system. The centers and surrounds will want to be upgraded.
System Strengths: The 2.5Rs have fantastic detail and respectable bass. The B&K produces good strong bass and is smooth in the highs.
System Weaknesses: The 2.5s have a hole in the midrange., but the stands and bypassing the tweeter fuse have helped. I could use a slightly more laid-back amp with stronger mids. Considering Classe.
Video/HT System: Integrated
TV/Projector: Sony 27-inch Trinitron
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: Denon 2802 -- drives center and surrounds.
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): Center: RCA Linaeum. MMGC someday. Rears: crapy Optimus.
Sources (DVD/VCR): Toshiba 3950 DVD player. A little quirky as a DVD player, but decent for CDs. Amazing Sanyo VCR has functioned like a champ for 10 years, and is still clear, crisp and sounds great.
Comments on HT System: 2-channel sound is more important than HT sound.
