Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Virtually all music formats sound great on this system. Everything from fragile voice to power-house movie music is handled with a sense of mastery that few systems posses for any kind of music.
System Goals/Comments: Restore the glorious Apogee Full Ranges and improve them by getting rid of the transformers and analog xovers and using potent amps and all new digital xover technology.
System Strengths: For a line-source speaker, the 81" tall x 36" wide speakers produce an incredible sound stage. The speed and clarity of the ribbons provides for tonal accuracy and that matches the best electrostats, whilst providing the kind of dynamic realism that only the best dynamic point-source speakers can provide. The bass, in particular, is the best I have ever heard from any system - and I've auditioned plenty of great full-range speakers and subs. The bass is deep, quick, accurate, and dynamic enough to shake any size room.
System Weaknesses: Speakers are very inefficient and require amps that can drive near dead-short impedances, in addition to a very large room.
The amps require plenty of space, cooling, and dedicated lines for proper operation.
Video/HT System: Separate
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: Aviation and Formula 1
