Amplifier: | Creek 5350 SE |
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): | Apt/Holman (not currently in system) |
Speakers: | Quad ESL-63, sensitivity: 87 dbl (if memory serves) |
Sources: | |
CD Player/DAC: | Various budget type CDP players |
Turntable/Phono Stage: | Ariston RD-80/ Grado Signature 8MR |
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: | Various: Acoustic Research, Audioquest Jade, Straightwire. I use the Audioquest between the preamp and power amp stages of the Creek because of its lower capacitance rating. |
Room Size (LxWxH): | 20 x 20 x 8 |
Room Comments/Treatments: | Pillows behind speakers to break standing wave. The Quads have no bass in my room without some kind of rear wall treatment. |
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): | Minimally miked acoustic/classical recordings are my favorite. I have a good variety of vintage vinyl from Mercury, early RCA, etc, and CD transfers of similar minimally miked material. (Don't get me wrong, though. The system is lots of fun with DVD's too! It's just that I don't consider most DVD's or, for that matter most CD's, as serious attempts to record 'the real thing'.) |
System Goals/Comments: | An approximate rendering of 'the real thing'. I believe minimally miked recordings of acoustic instruments are the only source to consider for 'realistic' reproduction. When I'm looking for 'all out' performance, I run the cd source straight into the power amp. |
System Strengths: | Tonal accuracy, large and stable imaging, seamless integration of high and low frequencies. |
System Weaknesses: | My lack of proper room treatment holds back my system from its ultimate capabilities. In the future, I would like to experiment with better cables. |
Video/HT System: Integrated
TV/Projector: | Basic Sanyo 32 inch TV, calibrated with Video Essentials and Ultimate DVD Platinume. |
