steven13's Steven13 System
Last Update: April 10, 2007 at 07:34:56 IP Address: 134.174.165.75
Amplifier: 6B4G SET get*set*go (built by Tom McNally) - in use
Forte 1a class A SS
Scott 222a (upgraded caps)
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): MFA Magus (2a with upgraded caps)
Speakers: Klipsch Cornwall (decorator)
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: MSB LinkDAC III
Turntable/Phono Stage: Thorens TD160S / SME 3009 / Shure V15 V
Other Source(s): Slimserver (wifi)
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: braided CAT speaker wire - debatable
plan to build Silver Signal Tape interconnects ASAP
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): system entirely wall mounted
Tweaks: vibrational isolation of amp killed audible micorphony
raising Cornwalls off ground (halved tennis balls) improves bass
Room Size (LxWxH): 20ft x 30ft x 9ft
Room Comments/Treatments: beamed cieling and carpet over concrete floor. A lot of furniture, but nothing between listener and speakers.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): rock (art/punk, prog, indie, new), jazz (small ensemble, B3 trios, fusion), classical (romatic and modern)
System Goals/Comments: Just get the best sound I can from the Cornwalls, which were a PIA to acquire ... planning to bi-amplify ASAP
System Strengths: tonally accuracy, strong dynamics, realistic presence
System Weaknesses: I get more detail from using a Scott 222a than I do the current Magus phono + SET, but the overall tonal qualites are much more realistic
Video/HT System: None
