Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): | Bryston BP25 (2004) |
Speakers: | Altec 604-8K with stock Altec crossovers mounted in custom 8.5 cu. ft. corner cabinets made from 1.5 inch thick panels of MDF/baltic birch plywood; tuned to 40 Hz; 98.5 dB sensitivity; 100 wrms power handling |
Sources: | |
CD Player/DAC: | Denon DVD 2900 'universal' disc player |
Turntable/Phono Stage: | Technics SP-10MKII turntable, mounted on 20 kg plinth by Jean Nantais (multi laminate of birch ply, mdf and corian); Signet XK50 tonearm; Ortofon Super OM40 MM cartridge; phono stage is a rebuilt and heavily modded NYAL 'Super-It'hybrid. |
Other Source(s): | SAE T101 AM/FM tuner with Fanfare FM-2 'whip' antenna. Looking into a new antenna as the Fanfare is terrible no matter what tuner I use it with nor what position/location I place it in. |
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: | Canare StarQuad microphone cable with Neutrik ProFi RCA plugs for interconnects; cheapo Home Depot 12 AWG speaker wire soldered right onto crossover connectors. |
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): | Furman power conditioner (model forgotten) |
Tweaks: | Crossovers mounted externally; components not rackmounted are bluetacked to their shelves. |
Room Size (LxWxH): | 25 x 13 x 8 |
Room Comments/Treatments: | No room treatments yet. |
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): | See my entry for my main (Bedroom) system |
System Goals/Comments: | Will eventually do the Parts Connexion (or similar)mod/upgrade on the Denon disc player. |
System Strengths: | Plays all types of music with both power and delicacy. |
System Weaknesses: | As my main system, but somewhat more so, no subwoofer type of bass, but the quality of what's there more than makes up for it. But, like my main system, visits to recording studios have convinced me that a careful, scientific approach to room treatment will improve the musical experience from my system more than any component upgrades. But that kind of investment requires owning the property! |
Video/HT System: Separate
TV/Projector: | Just a TV in the living room; no interest in HT or surround sound or even connecting the TV to the living room stereo. |
