Jack Gribble's Older rig my wife won't listen to System
Last Update: September 14, 2004 at 10:10:56 IP Address: 68.227.212.210
Amplifier: Audio Research D-240MkII; Adcom GFA-555II
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Audio Research LS3 line stage
Speakers: B&W Matrix 804's (89 db sensitive, but not very efficient)
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Cal Audio Labs Icon II as transport feeding Theta Prime DAC.
Other Source(s): An old denon Cassette deck; an old JVC VCR, an old sony DVD player; an XBOX. Also Korg M1 and Yamaha SY77 syths(and me).
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Audioquest Midnight, 8 ft. internal biwire speaker cables; Audioquest Emerald interconnects. Audioquest sterling digital interconnect. Monster Cables for synths to LS3.
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Old Target equipment rack; Two 12x12x2 bricks separated by blue-tak type stuff under each speaker--speakers on their own spikes on these 'stands'
Tweaks: Monster small footers under transport, large footers under amp.
Room Size (LxWxH): 18' x 12' x 9'
Room Comments/Treatments: tons of bookshelves
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): classical, rock
System Goals/Comments: My system from 12 years ago when I got out of college. The goal then was to play things loud and fast, with sharp edgy detail and eventually make my ears bleed
System Strengths: It's still fun to listen to. Watch movies on it play games on it, play my keyboards on it. Nice big soundstage with pinpoint imaging.
System Weaknesses: It's really damn bright and harmonically thin. My wife keeps telling me to turn it down.
Video/HT System: Integrated
TV/Projector: An old 27' Philips TV.
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: see above
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): see above
Sources (DVD/VCR): see above
Comments on HT System: It's fun and its two channels.
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: martial arts, mathematics, studying and writing music, reading and writing fiction, playing keyboards of any kind. Economist by day.
