System Goals/Comments: | 2Ch: Tonality, warmth, bass response, IMAGING, Smooth treble, soundstaging (In short, the Merlin VSM-MM's do EVERYTHING I could want right) HT: Cohesive surround sound, Thunderous bass, Main CHannel, speaker quality, Beautiful film like sources and reproduction. |
System Strengths: | 2Ch- EVERYTHING (see my review of my merlins at http://www.audioasylum.com/cgi/m.pl?forum=speakers&n=159702&review=1 ) HT- Soundstaging, Imaging, Bass, Cohesive sound |
System Weaknesses: | 2Ch- I can't think of anything I am not happy with in my 2Ch system. HT- Rear speakers, having a different center speaker brand than my mains. As good as the C6i is, the merlins completely outclass it. Lately, I have been running a phantom center just using the Merlins, and it actually improves sound. The imaging of the merlins produces a center channel sound and much more cavernous, cohesive soundstage. |
Video/HT System: Separate | |
TV/Projector: | A 36" flatscreen HDTV Sony Wega |
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: | CAL CL-2500 pre/pro, Belles 150a Refrence amp, Krell KAV-500 3 channel amp. |
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): | Merlin VSM-MM's with B-BAM, PSB Stratus C6i center, Velodyne HGS-18 Mk II sub, AR bookshelf surround speakers |
Sources (DVD/VCR): | Toshiba SD-9200 Dvd, JVC D-Theater DVHS player (dtheater picture is BETTER than cable HDTV, offering 50% more bandwith), Panasonic DMR-HS2 DVR/DVD-Recorder |
Comments on HT System: | The velodyne sub provides thunderous bass for all but the deepest, loudest of scenes. It rarely shows any sign of strain. The Merlins provide an unbelievable sense of realism, imaging, soundstage, and an uncanny ability to reproduce realistic sounding music or sound. |
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: | I'm Currently in medical school and am about to start my 3rd year. |
