theMechanic's Audio Orphanage System
Last Update: June 01, 2004 at 23:13:09 IP Address: 69.91.35.219
Amplifier: Some recent Cairn, Audio Analogue (Pucc.SER), Audire (Ca., USA), 3x Marantz rcvrs (1968-1972?) and maybe some pieces that I'll rediscover when I move again.
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): None...(that I know of.)
Speakers: Triangle Zays 222, Tr. Cometes XS (w/new twtrs), late 1970's Advent(BIG)bkshlf, Enrgy C-2's (boxed and sorta forgotten).
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Cairn w/Upsmplng, Roksan Caspian, Marantz 6000, an old Kenwood sngl disc w/ some nifty tricks up its sleave, and a Denon CD425.
Turntable/Phono Stage: Not yet- not enough time, money or courage to do it right.
Other Source(s): Local radio, which sucks big bongas ("FCC= F**! Clear Channel in my book!"), XM (part owned by Clear Channel, Oh the irony!), and friends with too much time on their hands (any of you ever heard of Yoko Kanno?)
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Assorted Nordost, Cairn IC, Tributaries, Ixos, Monster, Gallo solid core- Can you TASTE the poverty?!
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Monster Hts2000, mainly for surge. This is lightning alley down here.
Tweaks: Minimal, ongoing. It is amazing what $50 and a little imagination at Home depot can yield. Oh, and Cost Plus, too.
Room Size (LxWxH): 15 x 12 x 9
Room Comments/Treatments: Some advice- Never talk about building a "Helmholtz Resonator" (bass trap) while looking for Polyfil at Michael's crafts. Those little old ladies will report you to Homeland Security.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): I know what I like when I hear it. I tend not to go too obscure, but have found some wild stuff on the raggae side recently.
System Goals/Comments: I need a house to move my orphanage into. Has anyone seen my couch? it was here a minute ago....
System Strengths: Got me to disconnect my TV and move it "elsewhere". And I have free cable, too!
System Weaknesses: Hasn't gotten me to actually throw my TV away. Also doesn't let me get much sleep.
Video/HT System: None
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: I've been selling this stuff for about 7 years now, which really isn't that long. Hell, Paul Messenger has probably carried 1 beard longer than that. Still, I really enjoy introducing novices/regular people to what a decently set up, AFFORDABLE av system can do for them and their families, esp. when they know how to operate it. Otherwise, I bike, cook and act on my impulsive curiosity. People watching in Houston can also be an addictive pastime.
