Amplifier: | Bose control unit: Lifestyle 1. Cambridge Audio integrated amp. |
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): | None. |
Speakers: | DIY single-driver backloaded horns (using Fostex 106FE, and Fostex-recommended horn). |
Sources: | |
CD Player/DAC: | The Bose unit! |
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: | Lamp cord, ratshack ICs. |
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): | Radio 3 and 4, jazz, music for sex, music for going to sleep. |
System Goals/Comments: | An exercise into putting the money into the speakers, everything was driven by non-sonic considerations. The aim was to be cheap, unobtrusive, with a reliable remote. Since I built the speakers, not so unobtrusive. For the bedroom. |
System Strengths: | Very nice radio-controlled (not infrared) remote control, and the speakers are astonishing for the price (£230 to build). |
System Weaknesses: | The Bose cdp is awful. If you want to hear the worst of CD, connect a cdp like this to some very transparent speakers like these: ouch! I need a good cdp that can drive long cables, with a volume control and a very good remote. |
Video/HT System: None |
