Norman Tracy's Stereo rig System
Last Update: October 08, 2004 at 09:54:41 IP Address: 68.15.199.114
Amplifier: Spectral DMA-50 or McIntosh 225 (pair in mono configuration)
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Counterpoint 3000 or Pass Bride of Zen or Stein Modular tube or DACT attenuator.
Speakers: Stax ESL-F81 or B&W 802II
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Modified Sony CD and/or DVD as transport various ACG production and experimental DACs
Turntable/Phono Stage: SOTA Star or Technics SP-10. Tonearms include McIntire linear air bearing, Technics EPA-500, and Luster
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Kimber, DIY silver, Belden 1694
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Jazz, Rock, Classical
System Goals/Comments: Less hi-fi, more emotion.
System Strengths: Spectral amps + ESL = magic
System Weaknesses: The two channel rig has the dynamic limits of typical high-end systems based on less than high efficiency speakers. The video rig needs the video side updated for HDTV resolutions, slow to do it because so many digital TVs look like crap compared to my analog Marantz.
Video/HT System: Separate
TV/Projector: Marantz 65" RPTV
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: Parasound AVC-1800 DD/DTS decoder/controller, self built 2A3 SET amps for the JBLs and an old Hafler DH-500 (my first DIY kit) on the rears.
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): JBL B39 (self designed & built using 70's vintage 15" coax alnico drivers), various ACG oneZ and R&D designs. REL sub.
Sources (DVD/VCR): Sony DVP-NS900 extensively modified, Sony VCR (for timeshifting soon to be replaced with HTPC)
Other HT Gear: Monster HTS-5000 power filter/controller
Comments on HT System: Planned upgrades include switch to front projecton and HDTV capability
