Richidoo's Music System
Last Update: March 04, 2006 at 14:47:25 IP Address: 70.144.178.86
Amplifier: Cary SLI-80 Integrated tube preamp/amp
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): None
Speakers: Legacy Focus 20/20
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: Squeezebox 3, Infrant ReadyNAS NV
Turntable/Phono Stage: Technics/Shure
Other Source(s): McIntosh tuner
Onkyo cassette deck
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Anti-Cable speaker wires
Anti-Cable interconnects
Tweaks: Power One upgrade power supply for Squeezebox
Room Size (LxWxH): 26 x 43 x 11
Room Comments/Treatments: Room is large enough that bass is very smooth. Needs treatment on walls behind speakers.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Jazz, especially bebop combos. Bird, Trane, Basie, Kenton, Brubeck, Dizzy, Baker, Getz, Ella, Sassie, Brownie, BlueNote post boppers. Also love classical symphonies, chamber and quartets, Bach piano, Dvorak quartets and symphonies, Britten, Copeland, Beethoven. 70s 80s dance music. Any rock or even rap if it is actually quality music (not much though).
System Goals/Comments: Might try CIA 200W switching amps to power the big Legacys. Sometimes I wonder if the little Cary is cutting the mustard in the bass department, but no obvious sign of that.
System Strengths: Clarity, emotion. Legacy's big bass drivers allow true bass reproduction. Bass violins sound exactly like a real symphonic performance. You can feel the bass and hear the bass component in many non-bass instruments and voices. It brings the music alive. Squeezebox is extremely great sound quality, entire music collection is available through remote control.
System Weaknesses: I have to rip a new CD before I can play it on the Squeezebox.
Video/HT System: Separate
TV/Projector: Toshiba 30' 30HF83. Awesome HD picture but small.
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: Onkyo TX-SR601 6 channel, 85wpc (kinda). Beautiful sound, strong, great sound processing. Onkyo is built like a tank and it drove the low impedence Legacy's with no complaint.
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): Definitive Technology ProCinema60 sub/sat. Best HT speaker system <$700.00
Sources (DVD/VCR): Samsung DVD-HD841 universal player. Good aggressive exciting sound on analog outs, suitable for rock or blues, jazz, not for gentle subtle tones like violin, accordion. Great 1080i video on DVI out.
Other HT Gear: DirecTivo RCA 40GB
1992 Sharp VCR. It just won't die.
Comments on HT System: Fun. Small. Handles Barney, Frodo and F1 races just fine.
