Ryan_B's main (bedroom) System
Last Update: November 22, 2005 at 20:32:52 IP Address: 216.232.175.250
Amplifier: technics SU-V76 "new class A"
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): None
Speakers: EPI 100Vs
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: luxman dz-92
Turntable/Phono Stage: thorens td-145 with similarly ancient shure m91ed needle
Other Source(s): pioneer tx-6500II tuner, kenwood kx-69w dual tape deck
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: generic 12GA speaker wire, generic monster cabley interconnects
Tweaks: EPIs stock speaker connectors replaced with binding post/banana jacks, soon i'll replace the stock wired in interconnect on the thorens, i've got a grudge against it!
Room Comments/Treatments: my bedroom, bookshelves, clothes, piles of junk..
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): all sorts, classic rock, soul, reggae, folk, new wave, blues, jazz, indian classical music, whatever. good examples of everything ;) i'm really into joni mitchell, nick drake, jeff buckley, sun ra arkestra, van morrison, bruce springsteen, tom waits and bjork at the moment (to name a few), feel free to suggest things you think i'd like!
System Goals/Comments: i'm 17 years old, and all my stuff is in my small bedroom in my parents basement! maybe a situation many of you have been in.. so i guess a goal would be getting good sound in my limited space.
System Strengths: low budget! pieced together, my system probably has cost me around $150/200 canadian over the last few years of changing stuff out, quite happy with it for what it is.

i have no problem listening to many sides in a row, no fatigue here.

System Weaknesses: turntables got some grounding issues that pop up once in a while, switch went on the amp so its jumpered across and controlled from a powerbar.. this is a very budget system all be told, and in comparison to very high priced setups it tends to sound like one. not quite as detailed/precise sounding as other higher end setups i've heard.
Video/HT System: None
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: i'm into longboarding, mountain biking, cooking, bicycle touring, hiking, playing acoustic and electric guitars, reading (copious amounts i might add), snowboarding, basic electronics repair, i'll try almost anything. i've got a pile of electronics, the working stuff is: pioneer sx-5, pioneer tx-600, infinity rs-1000s, a pioneer pl-1150 with a busted grado mt+. projects, in the form of dead/dying components, are: pioneer SA-6500, kenwood DP-R99 5disc changer, Kenwood KA-219, akai gx-a5x, kenwood kr-5150, pioneer pd-4100, yamaha cdx-520, akai at-a301, pioneer ct-f500, kenwood kt-59
