Room Size (LxWxH): | 21'3 x 12'9 x 7'1 |
Room Comments/Treatments: | Equipment is in a dedicated basement room built with double 1/2 drywall for walls(using 2x6 framing), lots of caulk, and insulation up to R30 in the walls. Ceiling is 5/8 drywall, with 1/4' neoprene rubber spacers (every 12', with dual 'fat' beads of 1/4' caulk run as connecting spacers) in between the joist and drywall. Ceiling insulation is R30 between the 2x10 joists. Floor is carpeted, with pad, and a sofa sits in the listening position. This is my HT room. Room treatment consists of two Jon Risch first reflection DIY panels and two JR Quick & Dirty DIY bass traps in the front corners(stacked 4 rolls high,i.e.60' high). The bass traps follow the JR recipe with a polyester batting wrap and covered with muslin wrap. The front wall also contains two JR wall panels following the wall panel recipe (except the contents are 12+' of compressed poly batting/fiberglass batts/Auralex 2' foam with the speaker fabric covering and positioned vertically adjacent to the front main speakers). Three JR DIY 'corner tune' ceiling trap(7' of high-loft polyester batting with speaker fabric cover) are positioned at the tri-corners of three junctions (affixed with long-point brass tacks Two ASC Tube traps in rear corner Nine Auralex diffusors (expanding foam filled) are used in the room. Added four Auralex T-Fusors (also foam filled) diffusor panels (2'W x 2'L x 6'D): 3 of which are installed 4' behind listening position, and the fourth on the left wall, have greatly enhanced the stage. Two dedicated 12AWG, 20AMP circuits (on own sub panel) power the equipment. Use two audioexcellence.az cryo'd Hubbell 5362BK duplex outlets. Result is a fine listening room. No ambient light also make for an excellent 24/7 viewing room. |
Music Preferences and Comments: | |
Music Used (Genre/Selections): | soft rock, Contemporary Irish music; Peter Gabriel, Loreena McKennitt, Lennox, Krall, Norah Jones, etc. |
System Goals/Comments: | Still working on room bass response. Sub is near left front center (about 5') from front wall and long wall. This bass response issue is a never-ending tweak ;^) With this current placement, the bass response responds very well into the given layout. |
System Strengths: | Excellent home theater system, based upon mid-fi equipment. The room is very tight and the soundstage is expansive, and has some air and depth to the stage. Despite a somewhat dampened room,it is lively, tight, and fast. |
System Weaknesses: | Room dimensions (esp. 7'1' celing) are a trade off sonically but no other choice based upon basement layout. The room does well for the size constraints. |
