ParloFax's audio-rig-wannabe System
IP Address: Last Update: October 25, 2012 at 04:57:28
Amplifier: Pioneer SX-535 receiver and/or Marantz SR 2000 receiver... Can't decide so far which one I'll keep... Really like that midrange control on the 'Rantz!
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): none
Speakers: Dynaco A25 (8 ohms) speaker cabinets

MB Quart Phone 35X headset
CD Player/DAC: Pioneer PD-4050
Turntable/Phono Stage: Thorens TD-166 MKII (all stock), w/ Audio Technica AT14 cartridge w/ ATN13EaX stylus, Tri Pad platter mat in place of stock mat - tonearm set parallel (w/ most LPs).
Other Source(s): Cassette deck, Technics (Panasonic) RS-276US
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: A new thrift shop find: some Monster, biggie "gold" speaker cables... For the life of me I can't hear the diff. with my previous 18 ga run-of-the mill cables...
Tweaks: TT:
- bottom board taken off, replaced with a piece of MDF board; feet are 4 halves of squash balls
- Holes in platter filled with silicone.
Room Size (LxWxH): 20 ft x 12 ft x 8 ft
Room Comments/Treatments: Regular vinyl-on-wood flooring on concrete basement. No carpet. Speakers sit on slag-type concrete blocks, 18 in. high, set vertically. Good floor isolation.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): rock, jazz, classical
System Goals/Comments: Reduce surface noise of used LPs.

(New LPs sound is very satisfying to me within the limits.)
System Strengths: Warmth.

Bass response (given small speakers).

Good sound given anarchic-type and too deep music room. Satisfying sound on headphones.
System Weaknesses: Surface noise of used LPs. Hairline scratches still difficult to ignore. Brightness on new MB Quart headphones, though much more musical and "relax" than previous Koss set.
Video/HT System: None
