morricab's Odeon La Boheme, Odeon Rigolettos or DIY System
IP Address: 160.62.7.250 Last Update: June 26, 2017 at 06:14:24
Amplifier: Ayon Crossfire III or JJ 322 parallel SET. The Ayon does that "300B" spookiness but without any mush whatsover.

The JJ is a bit warmer delivers very nice dimensionality, resolution and tone. For now, the JJ will drive my downstairs system.
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): NAT Plasma full tube preamp, Luminous audio Axiom passive preamp, Lampizator "Amber" output stage kit (now preamp capable) or Pure Sound L10.
Speakers: Odeon "La Boheme" horn loudspeaker with 98db/watt. For horns a moderate sized speaker with 10 inch backloaded horn and 1 inch compression tweeter in a 10 inch solid wood spherical horn. Uncolored, ultra dynamic...realistic sounding.

Odeon Rigolettos. Full horn like their big brothers but much more compact. Will do duty in the downstairs TV system but will be powered by the JJ 322. Highly resolved and huge sound but perhaps lacking that last big of realism and scale of the big brothers.

Planar Magnetic Hybrid with BG RD28.1 main driver and Peerless CSX 10 inch sandwich cone woofers in critically damped sealed box.

Mirage BPSS-210 subwoofer and LFX-2 active crossover. This sub is awesome but won't play super loud.

CD Player/DAC: Cheap Samsung DVD player as transport
Monarchy Audio DIP, Behringer DEQ 2496 Monarchy Audio M24 Tube Dac and/or Kinergetics Research KCD-55 Ultra DAC. I wanted to try a DAC with 20bit Ultra Analog chips. The Kinergetics is now Lampizated and sounds better than ever!
PS Audio Ultralink II. Another 90s DAC with the UA D20400 20 bit chips.

The Kinergetics is now Lampizated and is tube output! Initial listening says it will be killer but takes time to warm up properly to sing.

Monarchy M24 DAC is now in the downstairs TV system
Turntable/Phono Stage: Yamaha GT-2000 Turntable with vacuum platter and external power supply. Audio Technica AT150MLX MM cartridge.

Silvaweld SWH-650 all tube Phonostage. Power supply is all tube with choke filtering and tube regulation. Great sounding machine and the only piece of gear I haven't changed in years.

Self built direct drive turntable...cog free with optical encoder speed control. Nottingham AceSpace 294 arm or Luxman arm (made by Micro Seiki) with Audio Technica AT150MLX MM cartridge.
Other Source(s): Casio portable DAT recorder.
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Goertz Python ribbon speaker cables (main speakers)
Goertz MI2 ribbon speaker cables (main speakers)
Goertz Sapphire Silver ribbon and Element Cable Silver wire interconnects. Element Cable power cords.

With Odeons, custom made Einstein speaker cables (biwiring).
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Monarchy Audio Power regenerator (for DAC/pre and phonostage only)
Room Size (LxWxH): 5.5 x 3.8 x
Room Comments/Treatments: distance is in meters.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Jazz, Classical and Rock in that order.
System Goals/Comments: As close to the actual recording as possible. The system should have very little of its own sound. Live classical and jazz recordings should sound just that...live.
System Strengths: Very neutral and transparent. Extremely good at resolving low level information that is conducive to giving a sensation of the real thing.
System Weaknesses: Not as powerful in the bass as in previous systems and the room is a wee bit on the small side.

Odeons sound big but do not go super deep in the bass because of bass horn dimensions...Mirage sub takes up the slack admirably.
Video/HT System: Separate
TV/Projector: Sony 55 inch LED panel
Processor/Receiver/Amplifiers: PS audio Ultralink II to Pure Sound L10 to JJ322
Speakers (Center, Surrounds, Sub): Odeon Rigolettos
Sources (DVD/VCR): Yamaha blu-ray player
