Last Update: May 24, 2006 at 15:38:21 IP Address: 64.81.54.31
Amplifier: Quad-amping with (at the moment, and from lowest frequencies to highest): PS Audio HCA1, Adcom GFA555, 300B Bottlehead-ish monoblocks, and a Norh Multiamp
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): RME Fireface 800
Speakers: DIY monsters. Dipole dual 15' high sensitivity woofers, PHL3431 midrange, Yamaha JA-6681B compression drivers in 650Hz tractrix horns, LCY 100K supertweeter ribbons. Digital software crossover.
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: PC audio system feeding RME Fireface 800 via Firewire.
Turntable/Phono Stage: Avid Volvere, SME309, Lyra Argo, EAR 834P
Other Source(s): Sansui TU-717 tuner
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Assorted.
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): Brickwall surge suppressor, home depot rack
Room Size (LxWxH): 13' x 19' x 8'
Room Comments/Treatments: Foam panels placed, but can't really do enough with a rental space.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Jazz, Electronica, Classical (particularly pre-Baroque), World
System Goals/Comments: I'll admit to being extremely picky. While I avoid audiophile upgradeitis as much as possible, I'm always on the lookout for things that sound good. I'm looking for something that reproduces the tonality, detail, and above all dynamic range and coherence necessary to convey the vision of the composer and performers of musical works.
System Strengths: Extremely natural, believable sound. Not quite 'there' yet but they play music that can be enjoyed for hours on end.
System Weaknesses: Speakers have a fairly narrow sweet spot, though they can be enjoyed from outside it. Room too small for speakers. Need to improve amplification enormously.
Video/HT System: None
