Amplifier: | D'Agostino S250 |
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): | D'Agostino Momentum HD Audio Research Reference 2SE phono preamp |
Speakers: | TAD CR-1's |
Sources: | |
CD Player/DAC: | Lampizator Pacific, single ended Audio Note DAC 4.1LE kit, with CuTf V-Caps Taiko Audio Extreme server |
Turntable/Phono Stage: | Technics SL1200G w/ Triplanar U12 + Benz LP-S MR cartridge or VAS Boron Signature (5.5mm Acrylic mat + Stillpoints LPS weight + home brew laminated SS perimeter ring) |
Other Source(s): | Audiolab 8000T FM tuner with Winegard antennae |
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: | Elrod Statement Gold Master Series Biwire SC's; Stealth Audio Hyperphono IC from SME V to phono preamp; Elrod Gold Statement IC's between DAC and preamp, and between preamp and amp; Elrod Gold Statement IC's between phono stage and preamp; FTA Callisto USB between Extreme server and Lampi Pacific DAC. |
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): | Dedicated 30A line. PS Audio P-20 Regenerator, fed by an Elrod Statement 20A cord; Elrod Gold Statement Master Series cords from conditioner to the pre, the server, DAC, phono stage, and amps. |
Tweaks: | Lots of attention to vibration isolation: two Herzan active vibration isolation tables that phono, DAC and preamp sit on (incredibly good attenuation of vibrations, whether externally or internally generated). Custom built stand to support the tables and hold other components (mirrors Adona designs). Adona granite composite platforms supported by cones, equipment supported by my take on the HRS Nimbus system and then covered by aluminum/rubber damping plate systems (I'm a rubber engineer, so I had to do it my own way!). |
Room Size (LxWxH): | 22.5' x 14.75' x 7.75' |
Room Comments/Treatments: | Room treatment: 2' x 2' corner baffles + 8' x 8' arc'd center difussor/absorber (Rives audio design) + 4 DIY acoustical panels 2' x 4' x 4" rockwool set at 45º angles at room corners, + 2 set at first reflection points - - absolutely critical to the whole system sound! |
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): | I love some of just about any genre (just cannot seem to take country-western after the mid-60's or so). Largest listening time is to classical, next to jazz, then to rock/pop. |
System Goals/Comments: | I love an articulate, detailed recreation of the soundscape, but it must avoid glare and treble harshness. I really prize timbre - - I hear live music daily, I attend many, many concerts each year, and I need to hear harmonic fullness and balanced timing of transient to harmonic development that corresponds to the natural sound of instruments live, combined with fine microdynamic shading that makes it all "breathe" right. |
System Strengths: | Timbre! Soundscape! It walks the line between detail and harmonic richness very, very well. Beautiful extended top end, natural midrange, reasonably deep in bass (I love organ music), plays all of this loudly enough for me when I rock out. |
System Weaknesses: | Still trying to tame a room mode (only been in the newly remodeled room ~6 months). Doesn't do the very lowest of bass range. |
Video/HT System: None | |
Other Interests/Hobbies/Occupation: | Avid bicyclist, regular yoga, reading. |
